This notice is to remind you that Terns can and have recently nested on barges

in the Long Beach Harbor

Suitable nesting habitat for these birds can be: sand, gravel, dirt, rust, seashells

or any combination of debris.

The breeding season for Terns is from

March through September

.

As a reminder: Disturbing or harassing nesting birds (including moving the barge before

nesting is completed) violates State and Federal wildlife laws.

TO PREVENT BIRD NESTING:

•  Inspect barges for suitable nesting habitat

•  Clean inactive barges using Port approved methods

•  Install aversion effigies (“scarecrows”) to discourage birds (example below)
