2009 Tern Nesting Notice
This notice is to remind you that Terns can and have recently nested on barges |
Suitable nesting habitat for these birds can be: sand, gravel, dirt, rust, seashells |
or any combination of debris. |

As a reminder: Disturbing or harassing nesting birds (including moving the barge before |
nesting is completed) violates State and Federal wildlife laws. |
• Inspect barges for suitable nesting habitat |
• Clean inactive barges using Port approved methods |
• Install aversion effigies (“scarecrows”) to discourage birds (example below) |
